5 Self-Care Hacks That Will Change Your Outlook on Life

You know how you always put yourself last? Let’s change that! We rounded up our fave tips in a no-nonsense guide to self-care.

Take a Load Off
Repeat after me: “I don’t have to do it all!” If you have kids, teach them the basics of housework. When you’re overwhelmed by your to-do list, cross off lower-priority items. Or rethink how you manage your time; try scheduling in blocks or the Pomodoro technique.

Say “No”
Let’s face it. We all say yes to things we really don’t want to do. Starting today, practice saying “no.” If this makes you cringe, try, “Thanks for thinking of me. Let me think about it and get back to you.”

Eat Well
Healthy eating looks different to everyone; listen to your body to discover what works for you. One way to get started is by eating your colors. Incorporate veggies into your omelet or sub out fruit for dessert (sorry, chocolate).

Move
Shake that body! Whether you’re gardening, chasing after your kids or climbing the tallest mountain, exercise can boost your mood and reduce stress. And who doesn’t want that?! Exercise is also a great way to hang out with friends. Try checking out the latest fitness fad or taking a dance fitness class together.

Make Time for You
Whether it’s 10 minutes of meditation or getting a good night’s sleep, don’t forget to pamper yourself. Whatever brings you joy, go do that. Maybe that’s a mani-pedi or a walk on the beach. Or if the spa is your happy place, check out this recipe for our favorite homemade face mask.

When we define time for self-care, we may just have more to give to the people we love. Now it’s your turn — what are your favorite self-care tips or routines?

Hydrating Avocado Mask

This California-inspired homemade face mask will have you glowing in no time. This recipe combines antioxidant-rich cocoa with the antibacterial properties of honey and the soothing elements of avocado.

1/4 ripe avocado
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon honey

1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
2. With the back of a spoon, mash to combine.
3. Apply the mask to clean, dry skin.
4. Let sit for 10 minutes, then gently wash off with warm water.
5. Follow with your regular nighttime cleaning regime.
